What You Need to Know About Tesla’s EarningsTesla Motors (TSLA – NASDAQ)Monday, August 05, 2013 Elon Musk’s Tesla Motors (TSLA – NASDAQ) reports on Wednesday. And frankly, it’s hard to properly frame TSLA’s numbers. On the one hand, it’s still a startup of sorts so we’re talking in terms of reduced losses rather than actual profits. On that front, analysts are currently calling for a loss of $0.36,as compared to a loss of $1.00 per share a year ago — which is pretty stellar as losses go. On the other hand, the Electrification Coalition released a report last week noting that Tesla’s red-hot Model S has captured 8.4% of the U.S. luxury automotive market in the first six months of 2013. Seriously, the Model S is now outselling Audi A8s, BMW 7-series, and Mercedes S Classes. And no one who owns one has expressed any regret! The thing is sleek outside, sweet inside, and runs like a rocket ship on rails. No shock there, considering that Musk is also the man behind the only functioning private rocket ship company, SpaceX, which is currently making deliveries to the International Space Station. Looking forward, Musk has declared that he is going after the $30k people-mover niche next. After his successes in sports cars and sedans, one can only wonder what TSLA will do with the idea of a minivan. Bottarelli Research Tip: TSLA is up more than 400% since we first brought it to the attention of readers back in 2012. Of particular interest right now is the arc pattern it’s beginning to build up. The previous arc carried TSLA shares to the 192% mark before falling off on selling pressure. Considering that TSLA is only getting more and more solid over time, we’d place higher odds on TSLA continuing its rocket launch on announcement day. But as always, a well-placed hedge on earnings day could be a life-saver if things go south. Bottarelli Research Options is playing three high-profile earnings reports right now — and you may consider joining the party.
