Most people do not read the comments at the end of articles on the web -- that's just the way it is, and given the prevalence of idiocy and self-serving spam marketing in those comments on many sites, I can't really blame them. But if you skip the comments section on many of the articles we publish, you're missing out. We have, I'm proud to say, some of the wisest, most helpful, and most polite readers here at Stock Gumshoe (not to say most attractive and erudite, though that's no doubt true as well).
I was reminded of this again when checking out the comments on an older article that's gaining attention recently about the Oxford Club's tease of Gazprom as an energy company about to make a shocking announcement, we had a reader "Karen" write in with a common concern -- reaching retirement age, thought things were fine, now the ugly reality of the numbers hits and don't know what to do. The responses were great, helpful, specific and generous. You can see all those here, starting with Karen's comment and leading on to the most recent helpful comment from Hi Pockets here. Don't believe everything you read, and not everyone is helpful all the time, but we have some great readers here who are willing to share their opinions -- thank you!
Oh, but you were wondering what we covered this week, right? Just read on for that ...

Deflation Warning: Money Manager Startles Global Conference History shows that the U.S. should pay attention to economies in Europe
By Elliott Wave International The economy has been sluggish for five years. There's no shortage of chatter about "why," yet few observers mention deflation. One exception is a hedge fund manager who spoke up at the recent Milken Institute Global Conference. Read more.

Well, we've finally moved into the second half of the year ... and that means the wave of predictions for 2014 has begun. We've started with just a pebble in the teaser-filled pond, this time from Andy Obermueller at StreetAuthority, but I expect the water will be roiling within a few months. So what is Andy calling out as the best investments for next year to ride the trends he sees coming? Click here for a few of the answers, Gumshoe-style. And we also reviewed a pitch for two of the world's "Leanest, Meanest Miners" who are poised to profit as gold bounces back -- you can see that here.
We also took a look at the new campaign from the Motley Fool about "Project Purple" and the profit you're going to make with this stock in the "hundred screen future". Huh? Don't worry, answers here.
We also opened up an Irregulars-only teaser solution from a few weeks ago, about a Cabot stock that they think will more than double -- it's a biotech, you can see that pick here.
